How to record dreams, interpret them, and manage your archive.
31 answers
How do I record a dream?
Getting started
Choose Add a dream and write or dictate what you remember. A fragment is enough; title, tags and personal context are optional. Choose Save dream to add it to your journal. After saving, choose whether to suggest details or generate a reading.
How do suggested details work?
Getting started
On a saved dream, open Organize this dream and choose suggest details. Review the title, people, places and image tags drawn from your words in the edit form, adjust them, then save changes. Existing titles and context are kept. Suggestions do not change the narrative, sharing status, sleep quality or waking mood. You can dismiss them without saving.
Can I dictate or record audio?
Getting started
Dictation depends on your browser and microphone permissions. Original audio can be recorded or attached from a saved dream. Saving an audio file does not automatically transcribe it. Typed capture remains available.
Can I look around before creating an account?
Getting started
The public tour shows fictional sample dreams and prepared interpretations without saving anything. Try a dream lets you test an example before deciding to keep it; a personal journal requires an account. Preview content does not appear in your journal unless you explicitly save it.
What are the listening room and journal questions?
Getting started
The listening room is an optional timer with silence or locally generated background noise, plus journal prompts. It does not record anything, and its timer ends if you leave the page. Journal questions can also be added to notes or downloaded as a worksheet.
Does Dreambase send reminders?
Getting started
Account offers a downloadable calendar file for optional morning and evening prompts. Import it into your calendar to activate reminders; Dreambase does not send notifications.
Do I need to add readings?
Readings
No. Saving a dream does not generate a reading. Symbolic considers images and possible associations; Relational looks at people, movement, repetition, tensions and perspective. Cut-up makes new text using only the dream’s words. Echoes searches earlier entries for quoted, source-backed connections. Generate one layer or choose Generate other layers. All displays saved layers together; it does not create another reading.
What do Drift, Shard, Echo, and Echoes mean?
Readings
Drift, Shard and Echo are three Cut-up variants. Drift makes a flowing sequence, Shard breaks words into fragments, and Echo repeats words and returns to them. They rearrange only words from the current dream and are writing experiments, not interpretations. Echoes is different: it compares the current dream with earlier entries and links to the source dreams behind tentative connections.
How do I change or revisit a reading?
Readings
Choose its tab on the dream page; All displays saved layers together. Generate adds a missing layer. Regenerate replaces a saved layer only after its new version saves. If you edit a dream’s narrative, older text and readings remain under Earlier text and readings, while current readings describe the new version. Settings lets you choose the default tab and tone.
How do comparison and archive interpretation differ?
Readings
Compare dreams uses two of your selected dreams to examine shared details and differences. Archive interpretation analyzes a selected set of journal entries and can optionally include shared Collective dreams. Both keep saved reading histories and link back to source dreams. They describe text at generation time; source links open the latest available version.
What if a reading fails?
Readings
Your saved dream remains in the archive. If a generated reading cannot save, keep the page open and retry the same layer to save its existing text, or download the unsaved reading. Use stop after this layer to finish the current request without starting the next one. Saved layers remain available. Leaving or reloading clears page-only recovery copies.
How accurate are the interpretations?
Readings
Interpretations identify possible connections in the text. They are not validated explanations or predictions. Check suggestions against the dream and your own context; use notes to keep or challenge them.
How do I use the symbol library?
Symbols
Search a symbol or phrase, browse categories or letters, and follow related entries. Editorial entries include context variations and questions. Optional generated associations are shown separately from the reference entries. Bookmark the page to keep your search and filters, or download a symbol worksheet for one entry or all matches. Worksheets exclude your saved dreams and notes.
Why does a symbol show no matching dreams?
Symbols
The library links to extracted symbols for the current version of saved dreams. It does not search unprocessed dream text. A missing link does not prove that the image is absent from your writing.
Who can see my dreams?
Privacy
Dreams begin privately. Sharing with the Collective is optional. Private notes, original audio and earlier narrative versions are excluded from that view. Authorized administration is supported; the journal is not end-to-end encrypted.
What is sent for AI processing?
Privacy
Reading and detail-suggestion requests send the relevant narrative for AI processing only when you choose them. Saving a dream does not start AI. Comparison and journal reflection use selected dreams. Reference-only symbol exploration sends the search phrase and reference entries without your archive.
Can I reopen unfinished writing from a file?
Archive
On Record dream, open Draft and recovery options, then choose reopen a downloaded draft and select your unfinished-draft JSON. Review the preview before replacing the form. Download current writing first if you want to keep it. Opening a draft does not save a journal entry until you choose Save. Settings import can instead create private saved dreams from supported JSON; select the entries you want before confirming.
How do I narrow my archive search?
Archive
Search titles, text and tags, or choose an exact tag. Filter by reading status, date, mood, sleep quality, visibility and entry method. You can also find entries with notes or audio references. Private notes, people and locations enter search only when you enable that option. Remove one active filter or clear them all.
What are session views?
Archive
Keep up to eight named filter and sort combinations in the archive. Opening one recalculates matching dreams and preserves your export selections. Session views last while this app stays open; reloading, closing the tab or signing out clears them.
Why are some selected dreams hidden?
Archive
Selections stay selected when you change filters or pages. The export panel separates selections on this page, other result pages and outside current filters. Open Review selected dreams before exporting. Deselect a page, all matching results, individual entries or the entire selection. Exports follow the chosen archive sort order.
How do I track patterns across dreams?
Archive
Open your journal at a glance in the archive. Choose all time, 30 days, 90 days or a custom range. Open a count to see its source dreams. Symbol counts use current extracted labels; recurring and lucid counts use your own flags. This overview summarizes what you have recorded; it does not infer causes or diagnoses. You can download a summary without dream text or notes.
How do I export my writing?
Archive
Use export on a dream or select dreams in the archive. Review the export options and preview before downloading. Private context and earlier versions have separate inclusion controls. Settings also offers a fuller journal backup.
Can I restore a deleted dream?
Archive
A dream moved to trash can be restored from Settings. Permanent record deletion is separate and cannot be undone through trash. Keep an export before permanent deletion.
Can a backup restore everything?
Archive
Imports currently restore supported dream entries. A full backup preserves more information, but complete restoration of readings, history and audio is not currently offered. Keep the original backup file.

What should I include in a bug report?
Support
Record the page, the action you took, the message shown, and your browser/device. Use a synthetic example when possible. Remove private dream text, email addresses, passwords and tokens from screenshots.
What can the Dream guide see or do?
Support
The Dream guide can explain the interpretation options and discuss only the details you choose to share in chat. It cannot see your journal, saved dreams or notes unless you paste information into the chat, and it cannot edit, save or share entries. New chat starts a separate conversation without earlier chat context.
Is downloadable narration available?
Support
Downloadable narration remains deferred. Browser read-aloud is available where supported, with voices provided by your device or browser.
Can I delete my complete account and uploaded files?
Support
Complete account deletion and deletion of stored uploaded files are not currently available through the app. Trash and permanent record deletion do not provide that full account/file workflow.
